A Princess For A Day: Timeless Royal Wedding Gowns

August 14, 2017

Amy McLaughlin Lifestyles -

Many young girls dream of looking like a princess on their wedding day. They picture the big ball gown, tiara and often imagine a dress in taffeta. Being a princess for the day is what a wedding means when we are growing up (and before we know any better!) Let's live in that mind of the little girl, wanting to feel tremendously special, for just a moment as we travel through the years and look at what REAL princesses wore on their wedding days. Below are some of the most inspired wedding gowns of all-time....

Princess Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier II

of Monaco

April, 1956

Grace Kelly married into royalty wearing designer Helen Rose. The dress was made of taffeta, silk and lace, setting a tone for the future of royal fashion.

Princess Marie Chantal Miller and Prince Pavlos

of Greece

July, 1995

This gown by Valentino made of pearl-encrusted silk and 4.5 meter long train of Chantilly Lace.

This lace and silk pairing never goes out of style.

Princess Mabel Wisse Smit and Prince Johan Friso

of the Norway

April, 2004

Princess Marie and Prince Joachim

of Denmark

May, 2008

Designed by Arasa Morelli was an ode to a more traditional royal gown, complete with a lace veil.

Her sweetheart neckline definitely allowed for a bit more skin, than the typical princess.

Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel Westling

of Sweden

June, 2010

Princess Catherine Middleton and Prince William

of England

April, 2011

Princess Kate Middleton chose an Alexander McQueen gown, hand embroidered by the Royal School of Needlework.

Sleeves add the conservative touch, that all princesses need.

Princess Stephanie de Lannoy and Prince Guillaume

of Luxembourg

October, 2012

Elie Saab designed another royal gown for the princesses of Luxembourg. This time, the train was 13 feet long, causing a dramatic statement.

The neckline of this royal gown is perfect for a bit more coverage.

Princess Madeleine and Prince Christopher O'Neill

of Sweden

June, 2013

Princess Madeleine wore a lace Valentino gown with capped sleeves, following the precedent of fellow Swedish princess Victoria.

You really don't have to wear Valentino to look like a princess on your wedding day!

Princess Claire Lademacher and Prince Felix

of Luxembourg

September, 2013

Elie Saab designed this gorgeously embroidered Chantilly lace gown, paired with a 10 foot long train.

Not all royal bridal gowns need to be a ballgown to make a woman feel like a princess.

Princess Elisabetta Maria Rosboch and Prince Amedeo

of Belgium

July, 2014

Princess Elisabetta had a Valentino lace gown with an illusion neckline, keeping it more youthful.

Illusion necklines allow to remain reserved, while still revealing a bit of skin.

Sofia Hellqvist and Prince Carl Philip

of Sweden

June, 2015

Princess Sofia wore a dress designed by Ida Sjöstedt and decorated with hand made lace by Jose Maria Ruiz.

Lace seems to be a common trend amongst royals!
